Hey, I just spent a week getting the library at Roosevelt to feel more like mine, which required me to go over every inch of the circulation area and my collection.  I have not even looked at the non-fiction yet, but have a good grasp of my everybody and fiction books.  This is time comsuming, but I feel like I need to know what I have in order to function best.  I have cleaned out all the cabinets and shelves and it is amazing how much I got rid of even though the previous librarian has already taken loads of stuff to her new school.  Classrooms are just like homes the longer you stay the more crap you accumulate.

I start Tuesday and work that afternoon and then all day Wednesdays and Thursdays.  I am already experiencing the cuts to my position.  I am at 17 classes and full time is 18.  I am informing my teachers that I cannot pull books to support their curriculum, which kills me, because I feel that is a very necessary part of a media specialists job.  My principal is great and is already lobbing for more hours for me.

Amanda, something I am doing which may work for middle schools is having a bullitin board with my Harry Potter poster on it and having the students and staff write on an index card their favorite book of summer, and then adding these to my bulletin board.  This is optional fot the kids, but I think it may promote book talking.  However, I have to get busy I want to. be able to say that I read all the Harry Potter books and I am just finishing 5.  Started reading these after our class and am truly enjoying my time at Hogwarts.  I may have to read the last one slowly.  I hate to end a great story.

Today I have been married for 23 years, where has the time gone and can I really be this old?

On a proud mother note, my son played in his first game as an Eastern Eagle last night.  He actually got into the game, which was a blast for us to see.  He looked liked he did when he was 6 and played his first baseball game.  They really never grow up that much.  And the Eagles won 52 to 14.

Hope all is well with all of you, and would love to get together somehow.  I am not opposed to a ride to The Tri-cities, or meeting in Ritzville or the bustling metropolis of Lind.

KEEP IN TOUCH!!

Hi Everyone!
I have so enjoyed reading everyones notes, but was unable to respond because our computer is "Cookies Disabled." We never seemed to have time to sit down and fix it. Congratulations to Amanda and to Joann. I too was about to advise Amanda to do something on the Harry Potter's theme. I thought about "Discovery the Magic of Reading."

I am enjoying the Library, but am totally socked in with classes. We have added two more classes to our school. We are now over 520 students (not counting the 75 early childhood children). We started last week, and I only got one, 30 minute prep a day. Of course you know I was busy teaching the rules, reading a few poems and reading a story....and so by Friday afternoon I had no voice! --Oh, I also have NO library assistant. I have been busy telling the 5th graders that I will be needing them to help me shelf books.

I would love to get together with you all. A trip to the tri-cities and a few wineries sounds great to me....Anyone else????

Well, I had better get back to work...I am also "Cramming" for the Praxis (That sounds like a song!).

I can tell you are all back to work-- NO POSTS!
I returned to EWU last week-- still only a soft voice from my thyroid surgery. I am still tired ( the way they do the medicine) but spirits are good.

Booktalking-- one of my favorites-- sharing the excited of what I recently read. Bood books to borrow from ILL Joni Bodart on Booktalking, Chris Gustafson Seattle middle schol does a great job writing short reader's theater scripts to  have the kids give their own version of booktalks ( Nancy Polette had a book with tons I used from SCLD, maybe ILLtoo).  I can send Amanda or others the info.

I plan to be at WLMA conference - Joanna Freeman ( asst webmaster, soon to be webmaster) and I will be presenting on web 2.0, Sat. am session 5 ( demo) and 6  ( do it!) incorporating read/write web and of course our wikis will be an example.

Amanda I would love to see you, and go hear Chris Crutcher, but I feel Yucky and think I may have gotten some bug....I am going to go home and hop into bed. Please let me know when you are coming to town again. How is your job going?

Nadean, I am glad to hear you are back to work, and are on the mend. Don't push yourself too hard. Things are going well for me in the library. I am loaded with classes, but so far, so good.
