I've also done citation, catalog, online database, and note-taking workshops that have been really fun.
Also, librarians you MUST use Ingrams! Their prices are unbeatable! It saves tons of money
secondary libraries! libraries!I bragged about you all and showed them our library policy page.
And, I started a reluctant reader (low level) program that is using the Playaways (books on MP3 players)and accompanying books that I just campained and got the district literacy program to pay for!
(wow this sounds a lot like bragging, but I just really want everyone to know how much we learned in class!)

Well, I had better get back to work...I am also "Cramming" for the Praxis (That sounds like a song!).
Pam
9-17-07
I can tell you are all back to work-- NO POSTS!
I returned to EWU last week-- still only a soft voice from my thyroid surgery. I am still tired ( the way they do the medicine) but spirits are good.
Booktalking-- one of my favorites-- sharing the excited of what I recently read. Bood books to borrow from ILL Joni Bodart on Booktalking, Chris Gustafson Seattle middle schol does a great job writing short reader's theater scripts to have the kids give their own version of booktalks ( Nancy Polette had a book with tons I used from SCLD, maybe ILLtoo). I can send Amanda or others the info.
I plan to be at WLMA conference - Joanna Freeman ( asst webmaster, soon to be webmaster) and I will be presenting on web 2.0, Sat. am session 5( demo) and 6 ( do it!)incorporating read/write web and of course our wikis will be an example.
nadean

KEEP IN TOUCH!!
JoAnn
Hi Everyone!
I have so enjoyed reading everyones notes, but was unable to respond because our computer is "Cookies Disabled." We never seemed to have time to sit down and fix it. Congratulations to Amanda and to Joann. I too was about to advise Amanda to do something on the Harry Potter's theme. I thought about "Discovery the Magic of Reading."
I am enjoying the Library, but am totally socked in with classes. We have added two more classes to our school. We are now over 520 students (not counting the 75 early childhood children). We started last week, and I only got one, 30 minute prep a day. Of course you know I was busy teaching the rules, reading a few poems and reading a story....and so by Friday afternoon I had no voice! --Oh, I also have NO library assistant. I have been busy telling the 5th graders that I will be needing them to help me shelf books.
I would love to get together with you all. A trip to the tri-cities and a few wineries sounds

Hope we're not too late.
Karen
8/27
Hello everyone,
Well, I start tomorrow, I am nervous! I can't wait though. I have been so busy ripping down all the cheesy elementary posters (the old librarian must have loved cats) got rid of some weirdness (like a very realistic stuffed cat), made some schedules, and put my Nancy Pearl Librarian Action Figure on my desk. I'm ready.
Some interesting facts...
There is no security system, they do not stamp due dates in books, or anything else.
All reading classes have an assigned check-out date and book talk session once a week (cool!)
The previous librarian spent half of my budget for this year right before she left, ie-1200 new novels, and tons of reference booksthat I didn't get to pick out (GRRRRRRRR)
After a little research I found that the district subscribes to Nettrekker, Culture Grams, WorldBook Online, Proquest, etc and NO ONE in my school KNOWS THIS!!!
I have a full time assistant who is extremely cool, and great to work with.<b

I believe you will enjoy the Tri Cities much more than Walla Walla especially with the job your husband has been offered. You will be great at theMiddle School.I lived in Richland for a few years and do remember that their school districts were very well supported by the community.
I also have some good news. I am now the librarian at Roosevelt Elementary on the lowersouth hill. It is a .5 position, but I have been hearing that they are 1 class shy of going full time, which could happen very soon. The good part about the position is that it is continuing and I do not have to worry about a job next year.
So are we going to be able to get together

Good day fair maidens of the LBSC program! I must apologize for the lack of "keeping in touch" on my part. I am still unemployed, and am most likely looking at being a stay at home dad for a little while. I wanted to ask Amanda about that U of I online program for Library Media. I can't seem to find what I'm looking for! Hope all is well with everyone! Aaron is gaining tremendous amounts of weight - 12 lbs @ 4 weeks...now he's in his sixth week, and unknown weight.... Take care...

Thanks Amy, I was just coming to do this...also there is a program with Portland State University, but I didn't get time to look it up. Also, try doing some independent studies with Nancy...this class I'm in now is GREAT, however it could very much be done independent stud

Hi everyone! To those of you I haven't seen in class this summer, I hope your summers are going well. Nadean, your travels sound delightful. I also wanted to let you know about a petition to save the library positions in District #81. It is online and easy to sign. First, you do a search using GoPetitions.com. Then you type in on the Quick Search box on the top right hand corner of the page - Spokane Schools and it should bring you to the petition. If you don't get there give me a call and I can help. Hey! Let's see if we can get together again before Amanda takes off for Walla Walla. Bye for now.
Karen
7/24
Hello! I just spoke with Pam and she got the Trent job! It was opened in building and so no interviews were necessary. She is unable to post to the Wiki as her home computer is having issues. I thought I would pass on her good news:)
Amy

Thanks Amanda! I am registered for the next available test on Sept. 8. Missed the August deadline. That's the website I used but I did a search for Praxis Test - Washington State and arrived there. Then went to online registration for anyone interested. Enjoy your leftovers.
Karen
7/22
Glad to hear your news-- no word on jobs yet?
I am glad your summer class is going well.
I had great trips to Rogue River, Oregon Coast, Mt. St. Helens and then Banff. Last Tuesday I went in for surgery and I am at home recooperating well-- better than expected.
I loved Water for Elephants and this Wed. July 25 at 6 pm I plan to participate in ALAN bookchat with Laurie Halse Anderson.
Congrats Amy and Amanda on Praxis testing-- I was confident in your abilities so I'm glad it worked out!
Nadean
