Anyone going to WLMA conference next week? I'm all ready. Dinner? Nadean do you need a "host" for your sessions, they are asking for volunteers, I would love to help you out! As a thank you for the incredibly amazingly useful things you taught, and I'm stealing...I mean using.
The Tri-cities is different, but cool. I'm secretly enjoying the unusually cold and rainy weather, while everyone complains. Everyone is nice, really family oriented, however, with that comes all the phone calls about why we have Endgame or A Child Called It in a library with "dear, sweet little 12 year olds!" Ah, parents, you gotta love em'
I've been doing research workshops with the kids. With the 8th graders I did a whole credible website class using the PNW Tree Octopus...it got such rave reviews I had all the teachers signing up, even the principal came in to check it out.
I've also done citation, catalog, online database, and note-taking workshops that have been really fun.
Also, librarians you MUST use Ingrams! Their prices are unbeatable! It saves tons of money
Get this, I convinced the other district librarians to create a WIKI where we will all be working on district curriculum for elem and secondary libraries! I bragged about you all and showed them our library policy page.
And, I started a reluctant reader (low level) program that is using the Playaways (books on MP3 players) and accompanying books that I just campained and got the district literacy program to pay for!
(wow this sounds a lot like bragging, but I just really want everyone to know how much we learned in class!)
The cool part is they are paying me for having this much fun...
