Well, it's been a crazy couple of weeks.  My husband was offered and accepted a dream editor job in Richland...so because neither of us felt like a two hour commute each day was what our family needed I applied for the 4 library jobs open in the tri-cities...interviewed for one elem and one middle school...was offered both today...thought, thought, thought and accepted the Middle School job.  At one point I had 3 jobs!!  You should all move with me...jobs for everyone!

The crappy part was calling Walla Walla.  The Personnel director was very understanding, the principal, not so much.

So now I'm in the tri-cities at Desert Hils Middle School.  I think this is a better fit, don't you?  I've been hoping for a secondary job ever since I started this program.  However, I was really getting excited about Elementary.  Well, off to a new adventure.  Guess I better go pack some more boxes.

Wow!!!  That is great news for  you Amanda.  I believe you will enjoy the Tri Cities much more than Walla Walla especially with the job your husband has been offered.  You will be great at the Middle School.  I lived in Richland for a few years and do remember that their school districts were very well supported by the community.

I also have some good news.  I am now the librarian at Roosevelt Elementary on the lower south hill.  It is a .5 position, but I have been hearing that they are 1 class shy of going full time, which could happen very soon.  The good part about the position is that it is continuing and I do not have to worry about a job next year.

So are we going to be able to get together before Amanda takes off?  When are you moving Amanda?

Double Wow!  Way to go Amanda and JoAnn!  I am really excited for both of you! Let's do all  get together before Amanda leaves.

Hope we're not too late.

Hello everyone,

Well, I start tomorrow, I am nervous!  I can't wait though.  I have been so busy ripping down all the cheesy elementary posters (the old librarian must have loved cats) got rid of some weirdness (like a very realistic stuffed cat), made some schedules, and put my Nancy Pearl Librarian Action Figure on my desk.  I'm ready.

Some interesting facts...

  • There is no security system, they do not stamp due dates in books, or anything else.
  • All reading classes have an assigned check-out date and book talk session once a week (cool!)
  • The previous librarian spent half of my budget for this year right before she left, ie-1200 new novels, and tons of reference books that I didn't get to pick out (GRRRRRRRR)
  • After a little research I found that the district subscribes to Nettrekker, Culture Grams, WorldBook Online, Proquest, etc and NO ONE in my school KNOWS THIS!!!
  • I have a full time assistant who is extremely cool, and great to work with.
  • I've using Sunlink and Annette Lamb, etc. like crazy.
  • Thank you Nadean for all the budget assignments and classes!!!!!!

Some negatives, some positives.

I have some questions...

  1. Ideas for mature bullentin boards (I'm not into this, and there has been complaints about the elementary level of previous)?
  2. What to do during my little book talk sessions (I have some ideas to get me started-i.e.-PNW Tree Octopus) but what else?
  3. Is anyone going to the WLMA conference in OCT.?
  4. How has everyone been doing?
